Why Are Days of Great Fun Followed By Days of Great Misery?

So frequently, the seesaws of our lives come crashing down just after monumental highs. It is almost as though laughter is the final gasp of enjoyment ushered before the fall. Must we spend our lives this way? Is there any way to manage a life so that it might be more generally happy than wildly oscillating? It is said that we must know the dark to understand the light, but these are fearful moments, these variations between pitch and blinding.

Life's full of little ups and downs.

Sometimes The Trees Are Beautiful

Here’s another initialism that makes an unfortunate acronym (I promise the post discussing the difference is coming), but I think it needs to be said. Of course, this makes reference to the old saying, “Can’t see the forest for the trees.” The idea here is that sometimes the larger idea gets lost in the details, and that certainly can be true. But if we forego all the details in order to salvage the big picture, we often wind up with a picture that’s sullied by imperfection. Let’s make sure that when we’re done painting our pictures, we’re proud of every brush stroke.

The Difference Between Women and Men…

Try to read this initialism as the beginning of a statement rather than the realization of one. For instance: “The difference between women and men is the difference between insult and brevity. One proffers the latter so the other can suffer the former.”

In this instance, you will witness that I have quoted myself. Thus, this is very meta.

Will the Future Want the Future?

This initialism doubles the ubiquitous and flippant WTF initialism to ask a compelling question of ourselves. What will those living in the future say about how we handled ourselves in the present? Will they be proud of us for addressing crucial issues like climate change and the need for universal healthcare, or will they be angry at our inability to assuage the perils of racism, capitalism, our destitution of beliefs, and our greed? As with so many other questions of this sort, it is impossible to truly know the answer. Yet, it is not impossible to attempt to create the answer we desire.

Be sure to read today’s initials as an initialism instead of an acronym. We wouldn’t want anyone being offended by the coincidence of abbreviation. Get your minds out of the gutter, people.
